Acute Parotitis Due to Candida glabrata Presenting as Syncope: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Acute suppurative parotitis is commonly caused by bacterial pathogens, with rare cases reported to be secondary to fungal infections. We present a case of Candida parotitis with disseminated infection resulting in carotid sinus hypersensitivity and subsequent syncope. We also present a brief review of literature surrounding this disease and a description of previously reported cases of Candida parotitis. To our knowledge, this is the first case of Candida parotitis presenting with syncope triggered by mechanical compression of the carotid sinus. Correspondence to: Christie G.
