DCE-MRI–derived measures of tumor hypoxia and interstitial fluid pressure predict outcome in cervical carcinoma

This study investigated the potential of dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE)-MRI for predicting the outcome of advanced cervical cancer. Significant associations were found between poor outcome and high values of the interstitial fluid pressure-related parameter v0 (peritumoral fluid flow velocity) and the hypoxia-related parameter LETV (low-enhancing tumor volume). The outcome was particularly poor for patients showing high v0 combined with large LETV, suggesting that important biomarkers of poor outcome can be provided by DCE-MRI.
