Young Boy With Roughening in the Inner Eyelids

An 8-year-old previously healthy boy presented with conjunctival hyperemia and increased tearing and itching of the right eye, with uncompromised visual acuity. On ophthalmologic evaluation, inflammatory thickening and papillary hypertrophy of the upper tarsal conjunctiva of the right eye without mucopurulent secretions (Figure) were observed. Supervised treatment with 1 g of azithromycin as a single dose orally was prescribed. The patient experienced progressive improvement of ocular symptoms, and a complete resolution of symptoms was achieved 5 weeks after treatment.
