Planning for Future Disasters: Telemedicine as a Resource

This past summer has been a difficult one with respect to natural disasters in North America. Hurricane Harvey flooded a massive land area in Texas, Mexico was struck by two major earthquakes, Hurricanes Irma and Maria caused widespread destruction, and wildfires ravaged northern California and British Columbia. Our successes (and failures) with disaster response have been in the news for months. At first glance, telemedicine may look like an unlikely candidate for deployment in response to events such as these.
