Man With Abdominal Pain

A 21-year-old man with no known medical history was referred to the emergency department (ED) after presenting to his primary care physician with abdominal pain and a palpable mass. His pain began 2 weeks before presentation, after a collision while playing Ultimate Frisbee. He was hemodynamically stable and asymptomatic on ED arrival. Physical examination result was significant for a tender left lower quadrant mass. Laboratory testing results were normal except for mild thrombocytopenia (83 × 103/μL).
