Individual Participant Data Meta-Analysis Explained

In a study published in The Journal, Shaffer et al1 report the results of a PRISMA-compliant individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis2 on the effect of prophylaxis for early adrenal insufficiency using low-dose hydrocortisone in very preterm infants. The primary conclusion from this IPD meta-analysis, which included the pooling of data from 4 randomized controlled trials representing 982 participants, was that early low-dose hydrocortisone therapy is beneficial for survival without bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in very preterm infants.
