Potential Pitfalls in Applying Screening Criteria in Infants at Risk of Peanut Allergy

An 8-month-old male infant was seen prior to peanut ingestion in the allergy clinic because of a history of potential food allergy in his older sibling. His 3-year-old sister had severe eczema and had never ingested peanut, egg, or finned fish, but skin prick testing had been positive in the past and as a result she had avoided them. The patient was scheduled to be seen at 6 months of age but the family missed the appointment.
