The Medical Home for Children with Medical Complexity: Back to Basics

The literature on children with medical complexity (CMC) has grown substantially.1 Much of the literature focuses on their extensive medical and service needs and what is wrong with the system: fragmented, inaccessible, costly. Pediatric complex care programs, many of them hospital-based, have shown promise in reducing costs and improving health but often are limited by being single-center, pre-post designs.2-4 Finally, a fuller understanding of the domains of health of CMC, and what services across the care spectrum are needed, increasingly is recognized.
