Prescribers in the emergency department (ED) face many challenges when caring for pregnant or breastfeeding women, including time constraints, a lack of evidence on medication use in this patient population, and a tendency to overestimate teratogenicity. Nevertheless, it is crucial for ED prescribers to understand medication use in this patient population, as the majority of women report some medication use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
