Human eyes use retina photoreceptor cells to absorb and distinguish photons from different wavelengths to construct an image. To emulate this process and extend its spectral response into NIR region, Yunlong Guo, Wenping Hu, Yunqi Liu and co-workers demonstrate a retina-like organic photosensor with wavelength-distinguishing and memory functionality, in article number 1701772. Featuring an integration of photosensing elements and floating-gate organic memory modules, the device transduces NIR into nonvolatile memory and green light into photoswitch. In doing this, the device accomodates wavelengthdependent dual modes for filter-free NIR sensing purposes.
