Comparison of coding transcriptomes in fibroblasts irradiated with low and high LET proton beams and Cobalt-60 photons

Proton and photon beam irradiation may induce different cellular responses. Transcriptomes from 10 primary fibroblast cultures, irradiated with either protons or photons, were analysed to quantify the radiation type specific differences. Higher LET proton and Cobalt-60 photon irradiation produced distinct transcriptome profiles. The differentially regulated pathways and regulators are critical in the control of inflammation, carcinogenesis, and cell cycle control processes. The transcriptome variation could lead to differential progression of normal tissue complications.
