Furth et al1 state that in both the CKiD (Chronic Kidney Disease in Children) study and ESCAPE (Effect of Strict Blood Pressure Control and ACE Inhibition on the Progression of CRF in Pediatric Patients) trial, serum creatinine concentration was determined enzymatically and all creatinine assays used isotope-dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS)-traceable standards.1 However, the ESCAPE trial used a modified Jaffe method for creatinine measurements.2 The CKiD cohort study involved creatinine measurements using high-performance liquid chromatography.
