Fine-tuning of the energy-level alignment of molecular tunnel junctions is important to maximize their performance. In article number 1706322, Christian A. Nijhuis and co-workers report junctions based on self-assembled monolayers that couple to graphene via π–π interactions, which are strong enough to induce electronic function yet with minimal broadening of the molecular orbitals. These junctions are well-performing molecular diodes with good stabilities under ambient conditions. Image credit: Harshini. V. Annadata.
