We thank Papa et al for their thoughtful comments on our report regarding lung ultrasonography as a viable alternative to chest radiographs to detect pneumonia in children. They ask for further clarification when interpreting our results. First, the specificity of chest radiograph in our study was higher for many findings compared with lung ultrasonography. The study of adults by Nazerian et al reported that the specificity for consolidation was statistically similar between lung ultrasonography and chest radiograph in the subgroup of patients who received both types of images, which implies that although the estimate was higher it was not significantly different between the 2 imaging modalities.
