We are thrilled that our recently published article addressing the heritability of colorectal cancer (CRC) in twins1 has spurred broader discussion about screening practices in families affected by the disease. In an editorial accompanying our article, Sammader and Curtin2 elaborated on the burden of CRC among first-degree relatives of probands and cited additional evidence that screening may prove especially effective for individuals with a family history. Matuchansky has now further recapitulated existing literature that suggests that familial risk may be higher for siblings than for parents or children of probands.
