Radiation Dose, Local Disease Progression, and Overall Survival in Patients with Inoperable Non–Small-Cell Lung Cancer After Concurrent Chemoradiation Therapy

In this retrospective analysis of 491 patients with stage IIIA-B non-small cell lung cancer, we found that squamous histology, large tumor volumes, and receipt of induction chemotherapy all predicted worse local control; that radiation doses of 67–70 Gy (but not 70–74 Gy) were associated with improved local control; that one third of local progression appeared within the planning target volume; and that local progression was associated with reduced overall survival.
