Objectives. To characterize tumour baseline blood flow (BF) in two lung cancer subtypes, adenocarcinoma (AC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), also investigating those "borderline" cases whose perfusion value is closer to the group mean of the other histotype. Materials and Methods. 26 patients (age range 36-81 years) with primary Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), subdivided into 19 AC and 7 SCC, were enrolled in this study and underwent a CT perfusion, at diagnosis. BF values were computed according to the maximum-slope method and unreliable values (e.g., arising from artefacts or vessels) were automatically removed. The one-tail Welch's t-test (-value ) was employed for statistical assessment. Results. At diagnosis, mean BF values (in [mL/min/100g]) of AC group [(83.5 ± 29.4)] are significantly greater than those of SCC subtype [(57.0 ± 27.2)] (-value = 0.02). However, two central SCCs undergoing artefacts from vena cava and pulmonary artery have an artificially increased mean BF. Conclusions. The different hemodynamic behaviour of AC and SCC should be considered as a biomarker supporting treatment planning to select the patients, mainly with AC, that would most benefit from antiangiogenic therapies. The significance of results was achieved by automatically detecting and excluding artefactual BF values.

CT Perfusion in Patients with Lung Cancer: Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Adenocarcinoma Show a Different Blood Flow
Potential Sustainable Properties of Microencapsulated Endophytic Lactic Acid Bacteria (KCC-42) in In-Vitro Simulated Gastrointestinal Juices and Their Fermentation Quality of Radish Kimchi
The objective of this study was to investigate alginate microencapsulated lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation quality of radish kimchi sample and its potential survivability in different acidic and alkaline environments. Initially, we isolated 45 LAB strains. One of them showed fast growth pattern with potential probiotic and antifungal activities against Aspergillus flavus with a zone of inhibition calculated with 10, 8, 4mm for the 4th, 5th, and day, respectively. Therefore, this strain (KCC-42) was chosen for microencapsulation with alginate biopolymer. It showed potential survivability in in-vitro simulated gastrointestinal fluid and radish kimchi fermentation medium. The survival rate of this free and encapsulated LAB KCC-42 was 6.85 × 105 and 7.48× 105 CFU/ml, respectively; the viability count was significantly higher than nonencapsulated LAB in simulated gastrointestinal juices (acid, bile, and pancreatin) and under radish kimchi fermentation environment. Kimchi sample added with this encapsulated LAB showed increased production of organic acids compared to nonencapsulated LAB sample. Also, the organic acids such as lactic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, and succinic acid production in fermented kimchi were measured 59mM, 26mM, 14mM, and 0.6mM of g/DW, respectively. The production of metabolites such as lactic acid, acetic acid, and succinic acid and the bacteria population was high in microencapsulated LAB samples compared with free bacteria added kimchi sample. Results of this study indicate that microencapsulated LAB KCC-42 might be a useful strategy to develop products for food and healthcare industries.

Knowledge, Attitudes and Behaviours Related to Dietary Salt Intake in High-Income Countries: a Systematic Review
Abstract
Purpose of Review
The purpose of this review was to examine the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours (KAB) related to dietary salt intake among adults in high-income countries.
Recent Findings
Overall (n = 24 studies across 12 countries), KAB related to dietary salt intake are low. While consumers are aware of the health implications of a high salt intake, fundamental knowledge regarding recommended dietary intake, primary food sources, and the relationship between salt and sodium is lacking. Salt added during cooking was more common than adding salt to food at the table. Many participants were confused by nutrition information panels, but food purchasing behaviours were positively influenced by front of package labelling.
Summary
Greater emphasis of individual KAB is required from future sodium reduction programmes with specific initiatives focusing on consumer education and awareness raising. By doing so, consumers will be adequately informed and empowered to make healthier food choices and reduce individual sodium intake.

Changes in plasma interleukin-8 and tumor necrosis factor-α levels during the early treatment period as a predictor of the response to sorafenib in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma
Abstract
Purpose
This study aimed to identify a biomarker for predicting the response to sorafenib in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Methods
Of 100 patients with unresectable HCC who received sorafenib treatment in our institute (Cohort A), 48 had stored plasma samples collected within 28 days before the start of treatment (Cohort B). Concentrations of 18 plasma cytokines were measured in plasma samples using a sandwich immunoassay with multiplexed fluorescent bead-based technology. Among 27 patients with follow-up plasma samples taken at 5–10 days of treatment (Cohort C), changes in the 18 cytokines were also evaluated.
Results
In Cohort A, progressive disease (PD) according to the modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (mRECIST) was associated with poor overall survival by multivariate analysis (p = 0.024). In Cohort B, no significant differences in baseline concentrations of α-fetoprotein, des-γ-carboxy prothrombin, or the 18 cytokines were found between patients with PD and those with stable disease (SD) or partial response (PR). In Cohort C, the increase in interleukin-8 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) was significant in the PD group (p = 0.0063 and p < 0.001, respectively) but not in the SD + PR group (p = 0.67 and p = 0.15, respectively). In addition, the fold changes in interleukin-8 and in TNF-α were correlated (p < 0.001, r = 0.67).
Conclusions
Changes in plasma interleukin-8 and TNF-α levels during the first few days could predict the response to sorafenib therapy in HCC patients.
