Impact of MRI Timing on Accuracy of Stereotactic Radiosurgical Planning: Visualizing the Forest From the Trees

To the Editor: We read with interest the excellent prospective investigation by Salkeld et al examining changes in brain metastases and resection cavity volumes between the initial planning magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans obtained before stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) versus those obtained 24 hours before SRS.1 Their work revealed that for MRI scans obtained with ≤7 days between scans, a change in management was required in 41% of patients; for MRI scans obtained >7 days apart, nearly 80% of patients required a change in management.
