Disrupted structural brain connectome underlying the cognitive deficits in remitted late-onset depression
Abstract Cognitive deficit is a key feature of late-onset depression (LOD) and remains after clinical recovery. LOD has been associated with widespread neurobiological difficulties, including atrophy in gray and white matter (WM) tissue in areas distributed throughout the brain. However, little is known about the topological pattern changes of WM structural networks in LOD in the remitted state and its relationship to cognitive deficits. We acquired diffusion tensor images in 37...

Irregular structural networks of gray matter in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Abstract Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) induces dementia and cognitive decrements indicating the impairment of the central nervous system. While there is evidence showing abnormalities in white-matter structural networks in T2DM, the topological features of gray matter are still unknown. The study enrolled 30 right-handed T2DM patients and 20 healthy control subjects with matched age, gender, handedness, and education. Graph theoretical analysis of magnetic resonance imaging on...

Dose-intensified chemoradiation is associated with altered patterns of failure and favorable survival in patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma
Abstract Background and purpose We evaluated whether dose-intensified chemoradiation alters patterns of failure and is associated with favorable survival in the temozolomide era. Materials and methods Between 2003 and 2015, 82 patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma were treated with 66–81 Gy in 30 fractions using conventional magnetic resonance imaging....

Potent stimulation of eosinopoiesis in murine bone-marrow by myriadenolide is mediated by cysteinyl-leukotriene signaling.
We describe the potent effect of myriadenolide (Myr), a naturally occurring labdane diterpene, in promoting the production of eosinophils in cultured bone-marrow from several inbred mouse strains. This enhancing effect is lineage-selective and requires the eosinophil growth factors, Interleukin(IL)-5 or GM-CSF. Myr acts over a very low concentration range (10-10-10-14 M), if added at the beginning of the cell cultivation. Its enhancing effect increases between 24 h and 10 days of culture. We used...

Assessment of Pain, Acceptance of Illness, Adjustment to Life, and Strategies of Coping with Illness among Patients with Gastric Cancer
Abstract Gastric cancer is the fourth leading cause of deaths in Poland. The standard treatment for non-advanced gastric cancer is surgery, which significantly reduces the quality of life of patients. The objective of the study was to evaluate the strategy of coping with pain and its control, acceptance of illness, and adjustment to living with cancer in patients suffering from gastric cancer. The analysis of the impact of socio-economic factors on the above-mentioned problems...
