Inappropriate Empirical Treatment of Uncomplicated Cystitis in Thai Women: Lessons Learned

<span class="paragraphSection"><div class="boxTitle">Abstract</div>A prospective study conducted in a Thai general practice clinic demonstrated a high prevalence (91.3%) of inappropriate empirical antibiotic use in women with uncomplicated cystitis and 42.6% <span style="font-style:italic;">Escherichia coli</span> fluoroquinolone resistance. An annual update of antimicrobial resistance surveillance data of uropathogens may permit targeted treatment of patients in hospital care.</span>
