National data suggest that 1 in 7 children under the age of 8 years have been diagnosed with a mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder or delay.1 Nearly 1 in 4 adolescents have experienced severe impairment or distress owing to a mental health disorder, and symptoms often emerge early, with the median age of onset for anxiety disorder symptoms reported at age 6 years, behavior at age 11 years, and mood at age 13 years.
