Highly reproducible on-chip single-molecule Raman detection is achieved by developing a two-step photoreduction approach to incorporate surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) materials with microfluidics, as reported by Zhipeng Li and co-workers in article number 1702893. The detection limit for various types of molecules can be as low as 10−13m with reproducibility of about 50%. This work may lead to substantial advances in single-molecule spectroscopy and quantitative SERS detection.
