Type 2 Congenital Generalized Lipodystrophy: The Diagnosis is in Your Hands

A 16-year-old girl from Northeastern Brazil presented with generalized lack of subcutaneous fat, high serum levels of triglycerides, and low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol since birth. Her medical history included diabetes mellitus diagnosed at 6 years of age, which was uncontrolled despite the use of high doses of insulin (5 U/kg/day), and 3 previous hospitalizations for acute pancreatitis because of severe hypertriglyceridemia. Besides insulin, she was taking metformin and ciprofibrate.
