Early Prediction of Acute Xerostomia during Radiation Therapy for Head and Neck Cancer Based on Texture Analysis of Daily CT

Radiation-induced changes in CT texture features in parotid glands were investigated based on the daily or fraction kilovoltage CTs acquired using diagnostic CT scanners (e.g., in-room CT) during radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. Models and methods were developed to predict radiation-induced acute xerostomia based on the changes of mean CT numbers and volume of parotid glands during radiation therapy delivery.
