Our front cover features image of Listeria monocytogenes-infected macrophages. Bone marrow-derived macrophages were cultured on glass coverslips and then infected with LLO-deficient Listeria monocytogenes. The samples were stained for actin (red), anti-Listeria antibody (green), and nuclei (blue). This strain of Listeria is unable to exit the phago-lysosome and so remains negative for the actin stain. The image is taken from the article by Valderrama, et al. (pp. 830–840) that shows a role for the integrated stress response in the control of Listeria monocytogenes infection.
