MicroRNA biomarkers for patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer undergoing selective bladder sparing trimodality treatment

The standard of care for muscle invasive bladder cancer is radical cystectomy with neoadjuvant cisplatin-based chemotherapy. Bladder-preserving therapy with maximal transurethral resection of bladder tumor followed by chemoradiation and with cystectomy reserved for tumor recurrence represents a safe and effective alternative. We identified miR-23a and miR-27a with the ability to predict response to chemoradiation and survival after selective bladder preservation therapy in a cohort of 40 patients using microRNA profiling approach.
