Issue Highlights

Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic and often progressive disease. For instance, approximately half of children will develop either stricturing or penetrating disease 5 years after diagnosis. It is unknown if early use of biologic agents in children might prevent this progression or decrease the need for surgery. In this issue of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Kerur and colleagues1 analyzed data from the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Collaborative Research Group registry, a multi-center collaboration between North American pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) centers, in which data were prospectively entered during the course of routine clinical care.
