Joint laxity is not equal to hypermobility in preterm born children

Romeo et al studied the prevalence of joint laxity of "healthy" children between the ages of 12 to 24 months who were born between 24-32 weeks of gestation. They also assessed the effect of joint laxity on the timing of independent walking and motor skills assessed between 3.5 to 4 years by the Movement Assessment Battery for children (M-ABC-2). They found a high prevalence of joint laxity (20%) and a delay of slightly more than one month in independent walking among the children with joint laxity.
