We thank Liakopoulos et al1 for their letter regarding our study.2 Although icodextrin prescription has been shown to augment ultrafiltration and mitigate uncontrolled fluid overload,3 its impact on technique and patient survival is less clear, with a lack of adequately powered randomized studies assessing these outcomes.4 The effect of icodextrin on technique failure within the first year of peritoneal dialysis (PD) therapy has not been previously reported.
