Terahertz Emission: Terahertz Emission from Hybrid Perovskites Driven by Ultrafast Charge Separation and Strong Electron–Phonon Coupling (Adv. Mater. 11/2018)

Terahertz radiation is emitted from hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites following light absorption. This enables an ultrafast probing of the charge-separation dynamics and carrier–lattice coupling, even under illumination conditions equivalent to 1 sun, as described by Burak Guzelturk, Aaron M. Lindenberg, and co-workers in article number 1704737. Initial charge separation is shown to be diffusive in nature and not driven by surface fields or ferroelectricity. Strong carrier–lattice coupling is evidenced via coherently driven terahertz-frequency lattice oscillations.
