Cerebral Abscesses and Osteomyelitis Caused by Fish Bone Impaction on FDG PET/CT Imaging

imageA 50-year-old woman complained postprandial vomiting for 5 days and drowsiness for 3 days. Possible central nervous pathology was suspected clinically. Brain MRI suggested likely brain metastases. For this reason, FDG PET/CT was performed to search the primary malignancy. The images showed abnormal activity not only in the brain, but also in the retropharyngeal region and in the thoracic vertebral body. The lesions were eventually confirmed as infection caused by fish bone impaction that occurred 1 month earlier.
