Quality and Safety in Health Care, Part XXVI: The Adult Cardiac Surgery Database

Abstract: The Adult Cardiac Surgery Database of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons has provided highly useful information in quality and safety in general thoracic surgery, including ratings of the surgeons and institutions participating in this type of surgery. The Adult Cardiac Surgery Database information is very helpful for writing guidelines and determining optimal protocols and for many research projects. This article discusses the history and current status of this database.
