In article 1605650, Yan Yu and co-workers introduce a "double-carbon-shell" concept in lithium-ion batteries, by which dual functions are performed: confining the volume change of silicon and stabilizing the solid electrolyte interface (SEI). Multi-point contacts substantially increase the electronic conductivity and decrease the Li+ diffusion length to the nanoscale. Such a concept can be applied to synthesize materials with large volume changes in cycles by simultaneously enhancing the electronic conductivity and controlling the SEI growth of lithium-/sodium-ion batteries.
