Tuberculosis and anti‐tuberculosis treatments cannot be ignored when evaluating cirrhotic patients co‐infected with HIV or not

Abstract

Study conducted by Salmon‐Ceron, D. et al. [1shows that in the period of combined antiretroviral therapy, the risks of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and hepatic decompensation are similar between HCV mono‐infected cirrhotic patients and HIV/HCV co‐infected cirrhotic patients, even though the later have higher all‐cause mortality. Although rigorously implemented, the study overlooked tuberculosis infections and anti‐tuberculosis therapy, which may greatly influence the outcome.
