Human Memory B Cells Harbor Diverse Cross-Neutralizing Antibodies against BK and JC Polyomaviruses

Reactivation of polyomavirus in immunocompromised individuals causes severe pathologies. Lindner et al. develop methodology for functionally characterizing the humoral response to BK polyomavirus infection and identify contributions from both IgM and IgG memory B cells. Structural analyses reveal key viral residues targeted by cross-neutralizing monoclonal antibodies, providing inroads in the development of therapeutic antibodies.
