A photomicrograph of a section through the cerebellum of a patient with mood, but not motor manifestations of Huntington's disease (HD), stained immunohistochemically for calbindin (brown) and counterstained with cresyl violet to show granule cells. Large, dark brown Purkinje cells are aligned along the border of the granule cell layer, and have healthy dendritic trees, while in cases with motor manifestations of HD, the Purkinje cells degenerate.
