Mesenteric phlebosclerosis causing a polypoid lesion mimicking colorectal carcinoma

Abstract

Mesenteric phlebosclerosis (MP) is a rare disease characterized by ischemia of the colon caused by calcification of the peripheral mesenteric veins and thickening of the colonic wall, and is strongly associated with use of Chinese herbal medicine. To our knowledge, there are no reports of polypoid lesions as an endoscopic finding of MP. A 68‐year‐old man was referred to us because of a positive fecal occult blood test. He had used 15 types of herbal medicine for the previous 5 years.
