We appreciate Balzora and Weinshel's thoughtful commentary on our article "Physician Burnout: The Hidden Health Care Crisis." We agree wholeheartedly with their additional points on the importance of recognizing, treating, and preventing burnout throughout the spectrum of medical trainees to practicing physicians, as well as the potential areas for improvement via institutional and leadership support. There is indeed much work still to be done. It is clear that the extent and consequences of burnout reach far beyond the individual; optimizing improvement must include interventions at both the level of the organization as well as the individual physician.
