Are we ready to move toward digital image interpretation in Barrett’s esophagus surveillance?

In this issue of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Swager et al1 deal with the issue of a novel technology for Barrett's esophagus surveillance, reporting the performance of a computer-aided volumetric laser endomicroscopy (VLE) algorithm for early detection of high-grade dysplasia/esophageal adenocarcinoma (HGD/EAC) in Barrett's esophagus (BE). The authors compared the performance of a computer-aided algorithm versus a clinical algorithm using VLE.
