Response to Tautological Nature of Guyton’s Theory of Blood Pressure Control

In a recent issue of the American Journal of Hypertension, we published an analysis¹ supporting the assertion by Beard² that the Guyton–Coleman "laws" of long term blood pressure (BP) control are tautologies, i.e., propositions that must be true simply by virtue of saying the same thing twice. Like all tautologies (e.g., the tautology that "people with chronically high blood pressure must have hypertension"), the Guyton–Coleman "laws" lack scientific rationale and cannot be scientifically tested.
