Epinephrine in neonatal resuscitation: more information on what works and doesn't work

It is not an easy task to develop a clinical evidence basis for the use of epinephrine in the delivery room because both cardiac compressions and epinephrine are rarely needed in neonatal resuscitation. In this volume of The Journal, Halling et al were able to capitalize on their unique situation of more than 11,000 deliveries per year in a hospital with a well-established neonatal resuscitation team to describe the use and effectiveness of epinephrine. Using a retrospective study design over an 8.5-year study period, only 0.05% of infants required epinephrine.
