An Unusual Case of Gardnerella vaginalis: Bacteremia in an Immunocompromised Female Host.

Gardnerella vaginalis bacteremia is an uncommon sequela of a common reproductive tract colonizer, usually related to obstetric or gynecologic procedures. We present a 54-year-old woman with metastatic breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. She was hospitalized with fever and severe neutropenia and was found to have G. vaginalis on blood culture. The patient was treated with tbo-filgrastim, cefepime, and metronidazole, with resolution of neutropenia and rapid defervescence. This case documents the first case of G. vaginalis bacteremia in a female immunocompromised patient, with only a distant gynecologic history. Copyright (C) 2017 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc.
