Our front cover features hematoxylin‐ and eosin‐stained histology skin sections of mice with graft‐versus‐host disease (GVHD) triggered by bone marrow transplantation. Expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs) is beneficial in immune‐mediated diseases, including allogeneic bone marrow chronic graft‐versus‐host disease. For their optimal proliferation, Tregs require T cell receptor engagement and costimulatory signals from antigen‐presenting cells, such as dendritic cells (DCs). Granulocyte‐macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM‐CSF) increases DC numbers and may promote DC‐dependent Treg proliferation. This image is taken from Hotta et al. (pp. 179–191), where authors demonstrate that GM‐CSF therapy expands Tregs and protects against the development of skin GVHD.
